I installed my new CB in My JL its large thats an understatement But I love it ...

My fire stick was snapped so thats another reason I never liked them 5 days old garbage wont happen again...

I added a steel whip styled one and read below for the details...or just check out pics Ill add one of new ant style tomorrow...

So I took that beast of a new CB the LX 29 to a CB radio shop...

When I walked in I thought dear god what a mess a literal path through all the clutter of radios CBs ant mounted to a test stations meters gauges, Oscilloscope, and thats exactly when it hit me, this IS the guy I want working on my CB and ant set up...It looked like a mad professor worked there...

I explained the Fire stick was snapped for whatever reason and told him I bought the Wilson 3500 with pre loaded coil at base, installed it all and I keep getting the Ant warning message on my CB and Since it has a calibration for SWR I couldnt understand it...well sometimes you have to step back and take a wider look at something to see the entire picture...

He says, nope your SWR calibration is to get the radio as close as possible to the Ant, not for the ant to be any length he says I bet Im gonna have to cut but lets adjust it up slightly and then check and see...

Ok Doc- kinda reminded me of a nuttty professor...so Im game... plus he is jammin to ACDC thunderstruck how could it be bad...

So he sets it and we test, then still same warning he says let me grab my swr meter and we will sort this out...

If the swr is higher at ch 40 than 1 you cut ...I think I got that right but you dont cut too much or the 1 starts to rise to high so its a balancing act... between the two...

He got me set up cut about 2" off the overall height and I look him square in the face and say...Hey, you know how to pump these things up? He looks at me and thinks and says yea I can bench test it and tweak some settings...

Its against the law to broadcast higher than 5 watts, the radio comes rated at 4 watts however...what they dont tell you is that the factory settings on most CBs now is set to 2 watts and an 8 watt max...in english that means when you key the mic (hit the trigger) the watts go to 2...only...when you speak it modulates the frequency to 8 watts, this is for most CBs out there even a hand held will be from 1-2 watts keyed and modulate up to around 6 watts or so...depending on the brand...

Basically he says yes I can tweak it up and boost your output- I asked how much he said let me check it first but you have a great radio modeled after the original trucker ones with all digital so give me an hour and come back Ill let ya know I asked how much are you charging he said Ill do it for 50 flat cash, for both ant calibrations and radio tweaks I said you have a deal...

I return in 45 and my radio is already sitting on the guitar amp laying in the middle of the floor...and I asked your done already huh? he replies yep, He says Its a good radio I was able to go from 2 keyed 8 modulated up to 8 keyed and 30 modulated...what...No way...yep, the swr is also at like .3 he said I cant get it lower without the lower channel rising...cool beans...I said.... Then I asked ...

Do you have some other CBs for sale here? He says well I dont have any new ones in stock right now, however I have some used ones if your interested I said I need two smaller set ups if you have them not everyone wants such a beast in their jeeps they like to move their seats more and not have a giant box mounted somewhere...

He shows me two older uniden with green led and noise cancelling and only a squelch and volume setting 40 ch and I asked you tweaked these ...he looks at me and says yep...already done, I asked what are these tiny ones pushing... he said they were pushing 2 watts and 8 modulated like yours stock, I tweaked them but I can only get 8 and 25 modulated out of these...Im like that high...yep he says...I said how much 90 each with mics ant mount and mic...with 18' coax ...so I bought them...

Basically he bumped mine up to 4 times the transmission power and the other uniden's 3 times their transmission power, he reminded me it wont improve reception but you will broadcast 4 times further...I said Ill take the deal...

I had already paid cash for him fixing my ant and the tweaks on mine plus extra 10 for him doing it right away on a Saturday and he stopped everything to work on my rig...

All I can say is with ant properly tuned probably the best 50 bucks I have spent in a long time for my unit to be tweaked up...

I told him Ill send my buddy Monday to get his ant Adjusted by him I drove 77 miles each way and the reception seemed cleaner and it will reach out...if I could hear them they replied when I asked for radio check and they said it was clear as a bell...

Love it...

Ill snap some pics after we do his install and run a couple test. he had a hand held unit and we only could get a 1/2 mile away so I have a good bench mark using the streets in the town here...stay tuned Ill return back to update when we get it all sorted...

I am totally happy with my set up...

He even persuaded me not to buy a black with red coil styled like a firestick citing they snap and they dont broadcast for crap he sells a slim line pre loaded wire set up and said I did good all around with my selections...

Cool...
